HET DEE DAI DEE.
It means "Do good, get good."
Derived from one of the main principles of Buddhism, in which many Lao people practice, HDDD is the golden rule of karma. That if you do good, you'll receive good. And, if you do bad, you'll receive bad. Much like the Western saying, "What goes around, comes around." There are no strict guidelines, scriptures, or commandments that dictate this mantra. You don't need to be Buddhist. You just need an open mind. The general rule of thumb is quite simple - try to do good for yourself and others in all that you do. In return, the hope is to generate goodwill and positivity for yourself and those around you. No matter where you're from or what your background, the message of doing good is universally understood and easy to adopt.
I would like to introduce you to Tony Innouvong. I connected with Tony a few months back and just LOVED what he was doing! Tony is doing good while re-purposing these old beautiful traditional Lao textiles called sinh. Tony is using the textiles to create something original with meaning.
"My goals for the project are to bring new life to textiles in a unique format, educate communities about Lao culture and heritage through fashion, encourage creativity and conscious consumerism, and promote positivity." - Tony Innouvoung
Tony Innouvong's designs are inspired by the fusion of traditional compositions and modern men's accessories. The result is a hybrid of old world patterns into everyday fashion that people from all around can incorporate into their look. TI's unique products are exclusively designed and handmade in the USA.
Here are some of my favorites pieces from his shop...
Recently, Tony's ties made a debut on the runway and shared how he #LaoNow at the Legacies of War Fashion Meets Philanthropy Annual Fundraise in New York! Guys, you need to be rocking a bow tie!!!
Tony is such an inspiration. He created this project as a platform to rechannel, redefine, and revitalize past journeys in ways that bring new value to all of our lives. Tony hopes to inspired people to #DoGood. If you are in the D.C. area, you must connect with Tony! Take a moment to hear his story, because there is so much passion behind every word he speaks and thing he does.
